Well there’s really nothing much to say about me. As for how I got the alias Shazzsteel, well during my schooling days a certain friend would constantly make up random names for me. Shazzsteel was one of them and I had decided to stick with that even when those days are over. So if your reading this Kinnamont, you have my thanks for the alias I have decided to stick with for the years to come.
How I got into anime, even I can’t remember that. All I remember was Full Metal Alchemist was the first series I watched and completed. Of course this is excluding all those Pokemon, Dragonball Z and Digimon series that would regularly show on morning television before school. I honestly say I can’t remember who introduced me to the show but I am deeply thankful for them as it has led me down a path I do no regret taking.
I only recently (depends on how you define recent) shown an interest in figures, and had begun collecting them shortly after I joined the army. With the extra cash I had from the monthly pay, I found I could spend my cash a bit more freely. It has now turned into one of my hobbies as I am addicted passionate about collecting them from my favourite series. Even if they aren’t from a series I have seen, generally its unique qualities and excellent craftsmanship manage to catch my eye.
For those who know me closely you may already know my home is in Sydney, Australia but my country of birth was in Singapore. I was grown and raised in Sydney I picked up the local accent rather than the typical ‘Singlish’ you hear in Singapore but nevertheless I do know it for those family occasions. It’s an involuntary switch I’ll never understand.
As for current location, I currently live in Singapore as I am serving National Service which is basically serving in the Singapore Army Forces (SAF) for 2 years until my service is completed. Until then Singapore is my home I decide to move back. Even then I do make yearly visits to see friends, family and close relatives. This also gives me the chance to enjoy good quality (and cheap ^.^) local food.
Games I play? Well I’ve toned down since I’ve joined the army as there isn’t much time to allocate and dedicate myself to it but I do enjoy the occasional fragfest or socializing with the in-game community. I do enjoy a fast game of Team Fortress or Left4Dead. I’ve toned down on games a lot to make way for blogging (which is still new for me), as well as preparing myself for university life as well as a part-time job for when I do return to Australia. Starting early would help the consequential withdrawal symptoms in the future.
Recently I’ve begun to show a passion in photography, which was after my holiday to Cambodia. After realizing you can obtain stunning and breath-taking pictures I could also apply this other objects such as my figure collection or even shots of my local area or landscapes. I’ve still yet to purchase a DSLR camera for my own.
About My Blog:
The purpose of this blog is to record and ‘document’ my daily activities, feelings and emotions and well as a place to view my photos, figurines and events that I go to. If I remember correctly I start this blog sometime in November 2009 which was earlier than I was suppose too. I have to thank Crimotaku once again as his constant harassment encouragement as he gave me the will to start this blog while I’m still in the army rather than after when I finished service. The Anime Fesitval Asia 2009 was an influential factor as I thought it would be a good start for one of my early blog posts as it was an event I would definitely attend. The fact that my friends also had their blogs (Yes you Naro and Lardman) pressured me into having mine as I do have the genes of a sheep and I enjoy following the crowd.
As you can see, parts of my blog are still under construction as I’m the only one maintaining and posting articles, however I would like to find others who share the same passion and interests as me but are too lazy to start their own blog to assist me with mine. In due time the blog will hopefully expand and flourish but for now it will stay a simple blog for my own usage.
The Otaku’s Creed
This is a little something I came up with when I was bored a few months back. I had Crimotaku have a look at it, so I made a few adjustments here and there. If feel that this creed summarizes what many otaku feel or are going through. It may necessarily not be everyone but it may apply to others and not just you.
As you may already have noticed, it is a remake or knockoff of Shirou’s and Archer’s Unlimited Blade Works from the popular Type-Moon series Fate/Stay Night. The attached image is of Konata with a reality marble behind her, I felt that this image is very suitable for the creed as Konata is a well-known otaku from the also very popular series Lucky Star.
I hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as if I come up with this. If you think you have any improvements for the creed feel free to contribute but remember to be polite as I am open to suggestions.
The Otaku’s Creed
I am the bone of my sword.
Anime is my body, and manga is my blood.
I have read over a thousand doujins.
Unknown to society.
Only known to have no-life.
Have withstood pain in search of many figurines.
Yet, those hands will never find the perfect one.
So, as I pray – “Unlimited Otaku Works”.
